Even experienced developers need some help when performing certain tasks. Comparing two sets of codes is not about skill, it's about patience. Compare++ will spare you from comparing each line of code from different source files. It will display the codes side by side and it will highlight differences or similarities. Its many functions allow you to perform other tasks as well, such as merging files, comparing folders and more.

There is nothing you need to install before setting up the program on your computer. The setup file is 3.43 Mb large and it will install the software in a few seconds. The system requirements are low and you can run it on most Windows versions.

You can browse for individual files and their paths will be displayed in separate fields on the interface. After selecting the files, you just need to click a button next to the paths and the codes will be displayed, side by side, under a new tab. Expressions or entire segments which are similar or different are color coded, making them easier to spot. The program supports multiple languages, including C/C++, C#, CSS, Javascript and more.

To make it easier, you can set Compare++ to ignore white spaces, comments, cases or pure formatted changes. These actions can be found in the Smart menu, where you will also find options for filtering the codes by differences, similarities or isolated sections. You can also merge two files by copying code fragments from one side to another. Simply select a line or segment and click an arrow icon on the toolbar.

A function view can be enabled by clicking a tab on the lower edge of the window. This will show you the functions, from both files, in the lower half of the interface. They are displayed in tree structures, side by side, and you may compare them just like the code lines. Double clicking a function will immediately display its associated code on the upper half.

It is also possible to compare the contents of two folders. You only need to select them separately under the Start tab. The contained files and sub-folders are displayed side by side, just like codes or functions. A series of options will be made available on the toolbar and you can use these to copy the contents from one folder to another. A history of your comparisons can be found in a tree menu, under the Start tab. If you need to compare the same files or folders in the future, you can just select an item in this menu and click a button.

Pros

Compare++ supports many programming languages. The interface is well designed and it makes it very easy to spot different code lines in separate files. You can find many other functions as well, which will help you work faster.

Cons

There are no serious drawbacks to find. Any programmer will consider Compare++ to be an excellent tool. Its straightforward features will save him valuable time.
